The problem with “loading up on SEO”
A lot of SEO companies will promise X amount of visitors to your site every month, X amount of leads and X amount of profit. They’ll get you into a year-long contract, then they will “load up your site” with SEO, and you’ll never hear from them again.
This situation happens far too often, and while we wish we could warn everyone, these big SEO companies still suck people in. Don’t get me wrong, some SEO companies are great, and they can be a good fit for your company. But more times than most, we deal with the aftermath of the storm that many SEO companies have created for a small business. Here’s why we have a problem with them.
No one can promise any SEO results. There is no way to put a number on SEO. You can say your traffic may grow, but you can’t put a numeric value to that. And honestly, if your traffic is growing, how many of those visitors are actually qualified leads that are interested in your product? That is what you should be concerned about. Some companies promise these large results for small prices, which sounds great, but their results are often subpar.
SEO is an experiment. People talk about SEO as if it is just a switch that you turn on, and that is far from the truth. Each month you should look at your analytics to see what is or isn’t working. Try different tactics until you reach your optimum goal. SEO, as we have talked about before, isn’t just loading up your site with keywords and updating those keywords each month. You must produce content, send out emails, adjust different items on your website, make sure you are catering to your customers. Your customers don’t care about keywords! That is why when we work on a company’s SEO, we make it a collaborative effort. No one knows your business and your customers better than you do.
There are so many elements to SEO. Don’t fall victim to SEO companies that promise you the world, and don’t think you can do a one-time load up on SEO and you’re good to go.
